Max Story is the Managing Partner of Story Law Group and a leading force in Florida consumer protection law. A native Floridian, Max earned his Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Rollins College and his Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Florida College of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Technology Law and Managing Editor of the Journal of International Law.
For over 20 years, Max has led the charge for consumers across Florida — taking on banks, debt collectors, and credit bureaus that think they’re untouchable. His commitment to ordinary people facing extraordinary challenges has earned him national recognition among consumer rights advocates. Max serves as Florida Co-Chair of the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) and on the Florida Bar’s Consumer Protection Law Committee. A frequent speaker at Florida Bar Conventions and National Consumer Law Center conferences, he trains fellow attorneys on how to fight back effectively — proving that justice doesn’t have to wear a power suit.
Outside the courtroom, Max enjoys life with his wife — a licensed psychotherapist — and their two sons, three dogs and nine cats. Known for his calm under pressure and practical approach, Max believes that true advocacy means giving power back to people who’ve been pushed around for too long.

James Tyer is a Jacksonville native and passionate consumer rights attorney who brings both sharp legal skill and a down-to-earth sense of justice to the team. A proud product of Florida’s public schools, James earned his Bachelor’s in Political Science from New College of Florida and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. (He also spent a year at The George Washington University Law School — long enough to confirm that suits in D.C. aren’t his thing.)
Before joining Story Law Group, James served at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Legal Services of Greater Miami, and the Public Justice Center in Baltimore, representing tenants, small businesses, and community nonprofits. He’s never forgotten that law should be a shield for the working class — not a weapon for the powerful.
Today, James focuses on <strong>credit reporting, consumer protection, and financial justice cases, helping clients hold corporations accountable. He’s a frequent CLE speaker and trainer for attorneys on the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and consumer litigation, and he continues to collaborate with legal aid programs statewide. His approach is simple: “Fair credit for fair people — and a little humor goes a long way.”
